Crimson is the darkest red, the color of what cannot be taken back. A covenant is a vow made between generations. Together they name the promise every Kittitian keeps with the ancestors who paid for freedom with their lives.

In the flag, red stands for the long struggle out of slavery and colonialism. Here it carries no decoration, just red on red, with the whole island engraved into the cloth: Brimstone Hill and its cannon, Nevis Peak, the poinciana in bloom, the pelican on ancient stone. You don't read it at a glance. You discover it.
