An uprising isn't chaos. It's the collective decision that things cannot stay as they are. Saint Kitts' freedom was never handed over. It was risen toward, generation by generation: by enslaved Africans who resisted, by the sugar workers who struck at Buckley's Estate in 1935, by the labour movement that grew from them, and by the organizing that carried the nation to independence in 1983.

So this is the loudest piece in the collection. The red is at full saturation, the flag sash blazes across the chest, and the back carries the full masquerade, with dancers in the streets beneath Brimstone Hill and the cannon of colonial history under their feet. To put it on is to step inside the image.
